Technology in the classroom workshop series
MASA is offering three one-hour workshops to be held in May in person in the MASA training room, Building D, 80 Payneham Road, Stepney. Book for any or all using the registration form overleaf. All sessions 5pm-6pm.
Wednesday May 12th Jarrad Strain, Using technology
Technology can provide students with the opportunity to play with mathematical concepts, using digital manipulative, graphing and modelling packages. This session will be geared towards Maths teachers running traditional Face to face classes, where the students have access to internet connected device (Laptop/Tablet/Smart Phone). The tools and techniques will encompass topics from Year 5-12 with features that will support students struggling with concepts and those seeking extension and enrichment.
Precise tools used will be dependent on attendees but will likely include:
Desmos, Geogebra, Mathigon, TinkerCad, Quizizz, PhotoMath, Graspable Maths and other digital tools.
Monday May 17th Valerie Peters “Can we teach in two places at once?”
Is it possible to teach remote learners and in-class learners at the same time? This session will delve into how I, and some of my colleagues, have dealt with this issue over the past year, due to COVID.
In the session we will discuss some tools that can be useful for teaching in this way, some lessons that we learned early on in the process, and the effectiveness of teaching in such a way.
Tuesday May 25th Rebecca Garrett, A Flipped Classroom
The flipped classroom can allow more time to explore the mathematics inside the classroom. This session looks at why you would consider flipping your classroom and the difference between the individual space and the group space. We will discuss the benefits of moving more accessible content to homework and working together on more difficult concepts in the classroom. Examples will include the use of OneNote, Screencastify and ClickView to make videos interactive.
One-hour workshops are $30 each, or attend all three for $80
